Whew! What a crazy week it has been. The visit from hurricane Irene caused a delay in the official return of our staff and threw a kink in several of our plans. But we adopted a "bright side" attitude, modified and moved forward. Flexibility and patience were words for the week.
Davis ES was one of the luckier schools. We did not lose power for much and despite some minor water damage and 2 trees down in the courtyard, we had little school impact. There are many schools in the county who do not share the same good fortune.
Many of our staff members returned to work on Wednesday without power at home. We continue to celebrate with each other as power is restored and wish for the same for everyone as people head into the holiday weekend still with no power.
Even with this unusual start, our amazing Davis teachers got into the back to school spirit to prepare for the students return. You can just feel and see the energy and excitement!! Kindergarten and Pre-K Orientations and Open House were quite successful!! Students just beamed while they met new teachers and discovered which friends were in their class.
I can not thank PTA enough for their volunteer support helping us prepare student packets and providing the teachers with a fabulous lunch.
So as we head into the long weekend, I look forward to Tuesday...the joy, smiling faces and curiosity that a new school year brings.
Welcome Back and see you on the bus loop!
