During this last week of school, our students collected money for the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund specifically to help the tornado victims of Joplin, Missouri.
This effort was the idea of a 4th grade teacher, Helene Leong. She had heard that a child survived the tornado because he wore his bike helmet and got into the bathtub. She relayed her idea to one of the secretaries in the office who had Lowes donate a tub. The students collected money and dropped coins and bills into the bike helmet of their grade level. Students and classes graphed their progress and AMAZINGLY in just one week the students and families of A. M. Davis Elementary raised $1034.48!!!
We are so proud!
